Mose Cooper bottle

This is an actual drawing from the bottling company files who manufactured the glass bottles for Mose Cooper’s elixir.

Mose Cooper was born in 1870 to Thomas and Mahala Cooper.  Mose was the younger brother of Lizzie Cooper Rhea Burel.  Mose married Silla Garvett and they had two children Rennard R.  Cooper and Loys V. Cooper.

Mose Cooper and his brother Bob worked for Collier’s Drug Store in Walnut Ridge’s early days.  Mose went into business for himself in 1903.  Mose Place was located on the bottom floor of The Rhea Hotel.  When the Rhea burnt in 1914, Mose rebuilt the section housing his business.  It is because of Mose Cooper’s foresight we have this building today.

Somewhere along the way the name changed from Mose Place to Cooper Drug Store.  Mose operated his business until his death in 1930, after which his son Rennard Cooper ran the business.  Cooper Drug Store was a high quality, very successful business.

After Rennard Cooper died, the business was purchased and operated by Lucian Warner.
